- Biography: A strategist, a design-thinker, a seasoned executionist, people’s manager, a courageous public speaker, a growth catalyst, a Single-n-Positive parent of a single child – it’s me – Sanhita – bound by the rules of my life. Though I was born from a super Mom in Kolkata, I was raised in a semi rural area near Kolkata. My Mom is a complete home maker(I say an architect who turns a house into a home), and my father was an employee in a state power development corporation and retired from there itself. From childhood, I was a good listener and an observant. I had a special feeling for Mathematics; I used to believe everything can be solved with the help of Mathematics, each and every subject has its own reasoning which is directly connected with Mathematics. While growing up, I have seen the dark side of human beings more than that of the brighter sides. But I was so lucky to have some incredible teachers – and surprisingly they all used to have the same belief as me. While doing my engineering in Computer Science & Engineering, I started my career as a governess, kept a pace as tuition teacher, freelancer before starting the official career in Information Technology industry after completing my B-tech. But I always have a thirst for upskilling myself. I always have a tendency to think out of the box. I cracked my campus interview wrapping myself in a saree, a complete corporate attire in a 6 yards drape. It gave me confidence to ignore the bullies and flying negative comments and stay focused. After completing almost 13 years as an employee in this IT industry, and going through lots of thicks and thins, I realized that my calm and composed nature, my resilience are always my inner strength.
- Being a daughter of an abusive father, I didn’t have a voice for me or for my Mom. For that, I had sustained two divorces in a row. Being a domestic violence and a marital rape survivor, I came out as a stronger me. It not only makes me stronger but my daughter too. She is the one who pointed out to me – “Stop compromising your own self. You are a dutiful and caring daughter, you are a doting mother. You brought me into this world , and you are the one who will raise me.” At the age of 2 and a half years, she decided that she needs her ‘Maa’ to be her sole custodian. In her words – “I don’t want to see the faces of demons in my life. Please do this. Otherwise, they will kill us.”
- While going through all ups and downs, I started rebuilding myself as a mother, as a professional and as a person who had seen the cancers of the society in person. And here comes a community – ‘Iron Lady’ in my life. I got my confidence back, I got to know my own self, I got to spread my wings. After a downfall of several years, I came back with a lightning speed in the company which I am working for, went through Executive Program, Post Graduate program back to back, started public speaking, re-skilling myself for the senior leadership position. While public speaking for youth leadership, women empowerment, gender equality, gender neutral education system, I found I need a platform from which I can reach out to the masses. That can only be provided by United Nations pageants. My new journey started there.
- Life Ambition: Be in the top of most powerful women in Fortune India or similar list. To achieve this, I need to have a positive impact in society – be it creating sustainable opportunities for children, raising awareness for creating more job opportunities or being a Jonathan Livingston Seagull. I dream of bringing changes through the United Nations Development Program initiatives obviously holding the proper Responsibility and Accountability.
- Volunteer / Charity Work: Advisor in My Abhilasha – a NGO works for underprivileged children. Also, I have a plan to adopt an NGO to work for the world’s biggest delta – Sundarban area. Am a Rotarian and a member of the Council for Fair Business Practices.
- Why did you enter the pageant? – I need a platform from which my voice must be heard. The United Nations Pageants are the places where my core competencies will not only be listened to but also mentored and nurtured to the next level.
