Mrs Sri Lanka United Nations – Wathavana Vithanawasam Rasangi Chamika

• Biography:  Born in 1988, I embarked on my modeling journey in 2019 when I joined Impas Acting School (Pvt) Ltd. It was there that I honed my skills and passion for both acting and modeling. After completing my comprehensive training, an exciting opportunity arose for me to showcase my talent in an advertisement for MILO Sri Lanka on December 17th, 2019, where I portrayed a side role. This experience fueled my aspirations and propelled me further into the world of modeling.
• Following my initial success, I ventured into the realm of marketing modeling, collaborating with esteemed beauty salons in Sri Lanka. I had the privilege of representing Salon Piyumara on May 23, 2021, and Salon Thisari on September 5, 2021. These experiences allowed me to connect with diverse audiences and demonstrate my versatility as a model.
• The pinnacle of my career arrived when I was selected to participate in the renowned Mrs. Grand International 2021 pageant, organized by MR Entertainment. It was a chance for me to shine on an international stage and showcase my grace, intelligence, and inner strength. Little did I know that this opportunity would be marred by a distressing incident.
• During my participation in the Mrs. Grand International 2021 pageant, I experienced the harrowing reality of sexual harassment. The magnitude of this injustice propelled me to take a stand against such misconduct, not only for myself but for all those who have suffered in silence. Driven by the determination to make a difference, I have embarked on a mission to fight against sexual harassment in the pageant world.
• To ensure justice prevails, I have taken legal action and filed a case against the pageant organizer. The legal proceedings are currently underway, and I remain resolute in my pursuit of accountability and justice. My aim is to create a safer and more empowering environment for all participants in pageants, advocating for stricter regulations, comprehensive training programs, and a culture that values respect, consent, and dignity.
• Through my courageous journey, I aspire to inspire other survivors to speak out, raise awareness about the prevalence of sexual harassment, and foster a transformation within the pageant industry. It is my unwavering belief that every individual deserves to participate in these events without fear or intimidation.
• Beyond the glitz and glamour, I am dedicated to leaving a lasting impact by actively working towards eradicating sexual harassment from the pageant world. Together, we can create a future where the aspirations of individuals are met with a safe and inclusive environment, free from the shadows of harassment and exploitation.

Life Ambition: My life ambition is to actively combat and eradicate sexual harassment in the pageant world. Having personally experienced such misconduct during my participation in the Mrs. Grand International 2021 pageant, I have become deeply committed to making a significant change. I firmly believe that every individual deserves a safe and respectful environment, free from any form of harassment or exploitation.

Through my journey, I aspire to raise awareness about the prevalence of sexual harassment in pageants and advocate for stronger policies and regulations to ensure the protection and well-being of all participants. I aim to collaborate with organizations, activists, and stakeholders within the industry to implement comprehensive training programs and guidelines that promote consent, respect, and empowerment.

By sharing my story and standing up against the injustices I have faced, I strive to inspire other survivors to speak out and seek justice. I am determined to foster a culture of accountability, where perpetrators are held responsible for their actions and survivors are supported throughout their healing process.

Ultimately, my goal is to create a paradigm shift within the pageant world, where every contestant can participate with confidence, knowing that their dignity and safety are of utmost importance. Together, we can bring about lasting change and transform pageants into spaces that empower and uplift individuals, free from the scourge of sexual harassment.

 

Volunteer / Charity Work: Throughout my life, I have been deeply committed to volunteering and engaging in charity work aimed at making a positive impact on the lives of those in need. One area that holds a special place in my heart is helping impoverished children to create a brighter future for themselves.

I have dedicated my time and resources to various organizations that focus on providing education, healthcare, and essential support to underprivileged children. Whether it’s tutoring, organizing fundraising events, or collecting donations, I believe in the power of education and opportunities to break the cycle of poverty. By working closely with these children, I strive to empower them to reach their full potential and pursue their dreams.

In addition to assisting children, I have also extended my efforts towards supporting the elderly. I recognize the wisdom and contributions of the older generation and believe in honoring and cherishing their lives. Through volunteer work at senior centers and retirement communities, I have had the privilege of engaging in companionship, organizing recreational activities, and providing emotional support to elderly individuals. It is deeply fulfilling to bring smiles to their faces and create a sense of belonging in their lives.

My love for animals has also led me to contribute to various animal welfare organizations. I strongly believe in being a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves. I have volunteered at animal shelters, participated in adoption drives, and actively promoted responsible pet ownership. Ensuring the well-being and protection of animals is a cause that resonates deeply within me, and I am dedicated to raising awareness about their rights and advocating for their welfare.

Overall, my volunteer and charity work encompass a range of causes, from helping impoverished children to supporting the elderly and advocating for animal rights. By actively engaging in these activities, I hope to make a positive and lasting impact on the lives of individuals, communities, and the world at large. It is my belief that through compassion, dedication, and collective effort, we can create a more equitable and compassionate society for all.

 

Why did you enter the pageant?  I entered the pageant with the goal of representing my values, aspirations, and personal growth. Participating in a pageant provided me with a platform to showcase my talents, intelligence, and inner strength. It was an opportunity to challenge myself, expand my horizons, and connect with a diverse community of like-minded individuals.

I also saw the pageant as a means to make a difference and advocate for causes close to my heart. It offered a significant platform to raise awareness about important social issues, such as women empowerment, education, or environmental sustainability. I believed that by participating, I could amplify my voice and inspire positive change in society.

Furthermore, the pageant presented a unique opportunity for personal growth and self-discovery. It challenged me to push beyond my comfort zone, build confidence, and develop new skills. It allowed me to embrace my individuality and celebrate my uniqueness in a supportive and empowering environment.

While my motivations for entering the pageant were multifaceted, at the core, it was driven by a desire to make a meaningful impact, grow as an individual, and contribute to the betterment of society.

• What do you like about host country India?  There are many aspects of India that people often find fascinating and enjoyable. India is a country renowned for its vibrant culture, rich history, and diverse landscapes. From its bustling cities to serene countryside, India offers a unique blend of experiences. Visitors are captivated by the country’s architectural wonders, such as the iconic Taj Mahal and ancient temples. The flavors of Indian cuisine, with its diverse spices and regional specialties, are a delight for the taste buds. India’s traditional arts, music, and dance forms showcase the country’s artistic heritage. The warmth and hospitality of the people make visitors feel welcomed and cherished. India’s festivals, with their colorful celebrations and cultural rituals, provide a glimpse into the country’s cultural tapestry. Exploring India’s spiritual sites and practicing yoga or meditation in serene retreats offer moments of tranquility and self-reflection. Overall, India’s rich tapestry of history, culture, cuisine, and warm hospitality make it a captivating and unique host country.
