Hello to wonderful World Class Beauty Queens Magazine and its wonderful Owner/Editor in Chief Derek Tokarzewski! This is my third interview here. Wow!
World Class Beauty Queens: Please tell us about yourself.
I am cheerful, sociable but sometimes I like to sit with a book in my hands. I adore traveling when I have time. I dream to visit Madagascar and Antarctica. My work is television. I’m a TV journalist. I’ve been working on television for 6 years. I like my job very much. It’s allows me to get acquainted with people with whom I did not meet in my usual life probably. I also do PR. Of course, work is our everything, but sometimes in a hurry we forget to look around. In the eternal race, we forget that someone needs our help. That’s why I chose for myself a way of helping older people in nursing homes. But I’ll talk about this a little later.
World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your pageant history.
The first time I participated in the beauty contest in 2014. It was a local contest that was held in my city – Miss St. Petersburg 2014. You will not believe it lasted 9 months! We studied not only the model gait, but also the history of ancient Russia. We went to the islands of the White Sea, lived a week in tents. And then I decided to try my hand at the international level and was selected in the United Nations Pageant like Miss Russia United Nations in last year.
World Class Beauty Queens: What inspired you to do your first pageant?
I can not say for sure. I think I just put the question: can I or can not? Defeat yourself, conquer your fears. And although my first education is acting. I did not imagine myself a model. In Russia, only thin models are needed, which weigh not more than 50 kg. I am far from this form and I am not completely upset about this. When you are hungry all the time, this can not be called health, and your body will sooner or later start to rebel. In the contest Miss St. Petersburg model parameters were not in the first place and I decided to try and find out what a beauty contest is.
World Class Beauty Queens: Why did you choose to compete for your current title?
I am Miss United Nations 2017! If I had been told this a year ago, I would not have believed it. It’s so incredible. I am grateful to the fate that in my life there was a contest of the United Nations Pageants which takes place in Jamaica. It is very different from all other beauty contests. Because the beauty of the soul, inner beauty is important here. Of course, there was a big preparatory stage. I studied the model walk, rehearsed the creative number. But all this was done not even with the desire to win, but to represent Russia with dignity. These 9 days on a paradise island in the Caribbean I will remember all my life. All the participants became my big family.
World Class Beauty Queens: To those unfamiliar with your pageant system please tell us what is it about?
United Nations Pageants is a great opportunity to meet beautiful and intelligent people from all over the world. Participants from Jamaica, the United States of America, India, Ghana, Singapore, Haiti, Mexico, etc. Indeed, from around the world. There are several categories in the competition and only one participant from the country can be selected in this category. For example, Miss Teen, Miss, Ms, Mrs, Mr, Mr Teen, Little Miss United Nations. Thanks to this system you communicate with people of different ages, gender and nationalities. It is indeed the unification of nations.
World Class Beauty Queens: What are you being judged on during the competition?
In fact although the final is the culmination in our contest, the judges evaluate the contestants for all eight days. That is why it is important to participate in all stages of the competition. Judges evaluate not only national costumes and evening dresses, but also your ability to stay on stage. Are you confident in yourself or not. But even this is not the most important thing. Each participant should actively engage in charity in your country. Everyone should have their own platform. Because external beauty is only half the success, if beauty is soulless, all this is meaningless. In the contest there is also an interview stage. It’s one of the most difficult for non-English speakers. Therefore it is important to know English.
World Class Beauty Queens: How was your experience during the competition?
I learned how to bake pancakes! Joke!) In Russia, pancakes are our national dish, so every self-respecting mistress knows how to bake it. It was the pancakes I was preparing in the stage of national cuisines. All participants had to feed 700 children!! Unfortunately, I baked a few pancakes, but they need another frying pan, and I did not bring it with me from Russia. I became even more self-confident. Practiced English. And of course, I met such wonderful people. We had absolutely no competition, no one quarreled. It is wonderful. Thank you very much for Leon Williams – Director and Owner of the United Nations Pageant and his wonderful team! Indeed the team of professionals who have always been with us and helped.
World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your platform or what cause do you volunteer for.
My platform is helping older people. I am curator of the Charitable Foundation “Old Age for Joy”. Why exactly grandparents? In Russia there are more people of the older generation than young people. Therefore, we must take care of those who are in the homes of the elderly. There are different people. It can be these deceived by black realtors and those who remained without relatives. But still, many have relatives and they occasionally visit their grandparents. Old people are so lacking in communication, especially with young people, that every time we try and diversify not only our songs, but we also get tired of art therapy. Draw, sculpt but even dance. It is especially joyful when you raise a grandmother to dance, which can not practically walk. But the feet remember the youth and the dances, and it gets younger. By the way, we have continued the New Year so far. You will not believe! But the question of helping the elderly became so popular that our fund, together with a network of shopping centers in St. Petersburg, prepared an action “Gift for my grandmother”. And we are bringing these gifts to this day!! We did not expect such a huge number of gifts and interested in helping people. We are always glad to new volunteers, so if you ever visit St. Petersburg, we will visit our grandmothers and grandfathers.
World Class Beauty Queens: What appearances have you done with your title?
As Miss United Nations 2017 I was often invited to judge contests. My debut as a member of the jury was at the Mrs St. Petersburg 2017. Later I was invited to judge contests in various universities with the category Mr. It was very interesting and exciting. Before that, I had never been a member of the jury and now I understood what they are experiencing during the competition. The winners are sometimes very difficult to choose. All participants are very talented.
World Class Beauty Queens: What are some of you achievements?
Of course, one of the greatest achievements in my life is the victory at the United Nations Pageant competition. I do not know can I call it an achievement that I visited many countries on different continents? Probably, not. But every journey is also a work on oneself. I’m not a fan of lying on the beach. I’m on the move all the time. And if I go on a trip, then at least three countries. As for volunteering, I am very glad that our fund has reached a new level. We have new volunteers, new sponsors and new homes for the elderly.
World Class Beauty Queens: What is your onstage strategy to win the judges over?
It’s hard to judge who the judges will choose. After I had been several times in the armchair of an honorary member of the jury, I was completely confused. It happens that everyone has his own favorite and winner. But in any case, if you are confident in yourself, smile and really came to the scene, do not just walk around and show a beautiful dress, but you have something to tell people, then you will definitely be noticed.
World Class Beauty Queens: What makes you stand out from all those other beautiful girl?
All the women are beautiful. If we consider the external beauty many women simply don’t know how to take care of themselves. You can never forget yourself, too. It seems to me that every woman is unique and does not need to stand out. You just need to be in harmony with yourself.
World Class Beauty Queens: How did it feel to hear your name as the winner?
When they pronounced my name, I could not answer anything. It was so unexpected and incredible. Oh my God!! But my dream came true!
World Class Beauty Queens: What does it mean to you to be a Beauty Queen?
When you are told on the street that you are beautiful, believe me, it does not mean anything. Beautiful, so what next? And what’s in your soul? I know so many girls who are chasing swollen lips, doing plastic surgeries, but have done nothing good for other people. They are selfish. Therefore, when I evaluated the beauty queens at the Mrs St. Petersburg competition, I first of all try to understand who they really are. For a beautiful dress sometimes a soulless body is hidden.
World Class Beauty Queens: How did competing in pageants helped your life?
I can not say that victory has solved all my problems and I have made a dizzying career. Victory is a big step in life that you can either take advantage of or miss. With the help of my title I try to help people and do something good for them. What I do as a volunteer. And I’m happy.
World Class Beauty Queens: You are an inspiration to all the girls out there. How does it feel?
Many girls after they found out that I won an international beauty contest, wanted to go and try their hand at it. It is very nice. Girls become more confident in themselves, in their abilities. And sometimes they ask me what I did to win.
WorldClass Beauty Queens: What are your tips for learning better pageant walk?
To begin with, of course, you need to work on your posture and press. Start small. I’m not a professional model. But I’m studying with professionals. Watch the video of the model shows, try it. It does not work … Try again. And everything will come out for sure.
WorldClassBeautyQueens: What are your tips for choosing right pageant dress?
The right dress is our everything! Let others appreciate it. Maybe you are crazy about it but your relatives will tell the truth that it does not suit you. Of course, you need to choose a dress so that it emphasizes your dignity. Every dignity has its own, so the choice is individual. In any case, you will feel comfortable in this dress or not. If the answer is no, then the dress is not yours.
WorldClassBeautyQueens: What are your tips for winning interview?
Interview is one of the most difficult stages. For me, probably. Because I do not know English very well. In any case, you need to know English. But this is not the most important thing. You must be sure of what you are saying. You have to prepare for the interview, as well as for any performance.
WorldClassBeautyQueens: Any modeling or acting experience?
I had a little experience as a model. Here in Russia the models are only thin, almost dystrophic. Therefore, there is practically no place to try. I guess I’m more suited to the size Plus size. Although, and I do not consider myself a plus size. As for the acting experience, I have an acting high education. I did several TV series. I would very much like to continue acting profession and, of course, modeling. I dream to walk on the runway at the famous designer’s show or in advertising of brands.
WorldClassBeautyQueens: What are your plans for 2018 as a Queen?
The queen has a lot of worries, and therefore work. Otherwise, she is not a queen. There are a lot of plans for 2018! First of all, I will continue my curatorial work in the fund “Old age for joy”. We have 26 branches all over the country and I really want to get acquainted with volunteers from different cities in Russia. And also has a dream to go as a volunteer to Africa or to Asia. Not necessarily to grandparents, but to children or those who need help. I hope that in 2018 I will succeed and I will be able to implement all my plans. And of course, I want to return to Jamaica in July 2018. First, to meet new members of the United Nations Pageant, hand over the crown to the new Miss United Nations 2018 and support Derek Tokarzewski – Mr USA United Nations 2018 in this beautiful competition. Derek I wish you only VICTORY!!!
World Class Beauty Queens: What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind?
I want the next Miss United Nations 2018 to bear this title with honor and dignity and work for the benefit of your country and the world!
